The Target Digital Team is constantly improving and innovating our digital shopping experience. Are you ready to excel in the fast-changing retail environment? Then you'll have success on the Digital Strategy & Platform team, whose goal is to offer guests a seamless online shopping experience across our platforms-including Target.com and the store network's fulfillment capabilities. Here, you'll collaborate to create and implement digital strategies that enrich the online experience through the right mix of personalization, simplicity, and intuitiveness. Your ideas will support Target in complementing the beloved in-store shopping interaction with a convenient, reliable, and instantly gratifying digital experience.

Target is looking for a high impact Director of Product Management for the Query Understanding and Relevance product group (aka Search Relevance) within its Digital Product Management organization. As a part of the Findability product group, Search Relevance makes it easy for Guests to find the answers and products they are looking for at Target. As the Product Director for Search Relevance, you own the product vision, portfolio strategy and roadmap for this team. You are directly responsible for the capabilities and models that accurately interpret what a Target Guest is searching for and delivering highly relevant results back to them.

In this highly visible position, you partner closely with user research, data engineering, data science and data analytics teams and collaborate with other Product Directors to ensure a seamless and highly relevant experience across the Search and Browse experiences. You know how to partner cross-functionally with non-technical, business owners to measure, evaluate and test into the future of a best-in-class omnichannel search experience.

As a people leader, you are responsible for managing a team of highly capable product managers of varying levels of experience to deliver outsized impact. This is a high performing team working in concert to identify and tune multiple factors to drive highly desirable and meaningful business results. In this capacity, you act as coach and mentor to build a strong team culture that is pragmatic in its approach to ambitious goals. You are experienced and comfortable using constructive feedback and insights to motivate the team, guiding their development and continued growth as influencers, visionaries and impact drivers.

As the Director of Product Management, you are accountable for succeeding against identified business outcomes and metrics, driving alignment with all partner teams within the Digital, Marketing, Merchandising, Data Sciences, and Technology organizations. You are an excellent storyteller, able to influence without authority and distill technically complex concepts into non-technical, easily understandable elements. You are able to work with and present to team members at all levels, including senior leadership, as you negotiate and remove barriers for your team.

Additionally, you have domain expertise in semantic search, natural language processing and machine learning. You drive discovery with a test and learn approach, developing hypothesis and a robust set of capabilities to validate or disprove them over time. You are learning obsessed with a flexible mind, and impact driven.

Ideally, you have prior digital retail experience, but more importantly you possess prior experience in a consumer software product company having worked on structured and unstructured data problems that drive material P&L impact. You understand the theoretical but live in the applied and can drive innovative and scalable solutions across multiple pyramids within Target.

About you:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience in computer science, mathematics or similarly technically complex field; Advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience with consumer software product management
  • 6+ years' experience delivering multiple AI-enabled products working closely with science and engineering teams
  • Highly data literate with experience managing to business outcomes
  • Prior experience managing search and browse related algorithms, capabilities and experiences is required
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking & problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, simultaneously managing working team & partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as experience in presenting to a wide range and level of audiences
  • Ability to lead and influence a team while fostering relationships across multiple enterprise-wide teams
  • Previous Digital Retail experience preferred


This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target. The salary range is :$141,600.00 USD - $254,900.00 USD. Pay is based on several factors which may include, but are not limited to education, work experience, certifications, labor markets, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family.
