The Financial and Retail Services (FRS) organization is close to the action-whether with guests or Target team members. FRS comprises several key high-visibility areas that elevate and nurture Target's distinctive reputation including: guest and team member service centers, service delivery strategies, world-class payment products that grow loyalty (RedCard, Target GiftCards, third-party gift cards, etc.), and bank program functions including credit risk, compliance, accounting, financial operations, and fraud prevention. A Sr. Manager Debit Risk, Modeling & Analytics, will have a breadth of skills and experience across algorithms, mathematical modeling, statistics, machine learning, and risk management to build high quality models, strategies and methodologies that enable data driven decision making at Target. They will help advance Target's Debit Card Strategy along with Modeling & Analytics through technical creativity, continuous learning, and collaborative problem solving while championing an inclusive and ethical organization.

As a Sr Manager focusing on Debit Risk Strategy you will evaluate, develop, and test underwriting strategies for new accounts and portfolio management, including approve/decline decisions and authorization frequency and dollar amount decisions. The goal is to drive Target sales and optimize the profitability of the debit card portfolio. The position requires strong data manipulation and analytical skills as well as the ability to present results to business partners and senior management.

With the additional focus on Data Science (Modeling & Analytics) you will work closely with the client to understand the business need and any specifications for a potential advanced analytic solution. You will evaluate and select the right modeling technique for the business problem, while objectively considering tradeoffs of accuracy for simple vs. complex models.

About You:
  • Master's degree in Quantitative disciplines (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Data Science)
  • 5+ years of professional experience or equivalent industry experience with expertise in one or more of the following areas: application underwriting, credit limit management, collections strategies, fraud strategies, payments, banking, ACH
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, probability theory and statistics, optimization theory, simulation, econometrics, deep learning or natural language processing
  • Strong analytical thinking skills. Ability to creatively solve business problems, innovating new approaches where required
  • Strong hands-on programming skills in SAS, SQL, Python, R
  • Able to produce reasonable documents/narrative suggesting actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-driven and results oriented
  • Strong team player with ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners


This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target. The salary range is :$124,100.00 USD - $223,400.00 USD.
