A role with Engineering and Technical Design Team means creating products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Can you ensure that each product has that just-right mix of style, quality and value? Do you love to create technical product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Then you'll have success on our talented and innovative team. Here, you'll partner with our quality and compliance teams to understand performance testing protocols and develop products that meet them. Your work can help identify technical specifications and quality standards like raw materials, fit and function, construction details and dimensions. You'll leverage collective expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, assembly, sustainability and ROI. You'll also collaborate with vendors to ensure that the brand vision is clearly understood and successfully brought to life with every product we offer.
As a Product Engineer on Kitchen Tabletop, you will develop and execute the technical development process that ensures product adherence to the quality standards established for Target-owned brands. Under the overall direction of the Director, you will interpret designer's concepts, usher product through its development lifecycle, and provide technical product guidance to design, sourcing and merchant teams.
You will be responsible for understanding the business' initiatives, product functional requirements, and performance expectations to ensure consistency of product while proactively supporting technical solutions.
In addition, you will be responsible for providing effective product technical specifications and product quality standards to include: raw materials, fit/function, construction details, and product dimensions. You'll also execute timely sample evaluations and ensure approvals of all products are meeting the specification requirements and Target's standards.
In partnership with internal and external partners, you'll ensure the brand vision is appropriately executed, work to identify and address manufacturing issues, and co-develop products. This requires a diligent approach to workload and maintaining timely communication with cross-functional partners.
Likewise, you'll stay current on benchmarks for specified product categories to ensure Target product meets or exceeds the performance of the competitors' product.

About You:
• Four-year degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Product Development, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years of relevant experience
• Knowledge of testing, safety and legal requirements for consumer products
• Knowledge of applicable raw materials and their performance and usage
• Strong knowledge of various 2-D and/or 3-D CAD software packages
• Exhibits a working knowledge of product manufacturing
• Ability to build strong relationships in order to successfully work in a team environment
