A role in Global Inventory Management means applying your specialized and well-informed point of view to what we buy, from whom, how much and where it needs to go from there. You'll use the right combination of data and expertise to achieve the best possible product availability through proper inventory positioning. You'll also focus on the efficient transportation of product around the world, while ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and achieving the best possible product availability through proper inventory positioning. You'll not only establish and develop great relationships with our vendors to encourage on-time shipment and delivery to stores and ultimately guests, but you'll also analyze transportation supplier capabilities and contracts for maximum speed, reliability and cost effectiveness.

About the Job:

The Director Supplier Performance Management will lead a team focused on creating and implementing strategy for how we engage Owned Brand and Import vendors to drive supply chain performance. This role will develop and implement strategy for the engagement model across key owned brand and import vendor partners with internal teams, including OBSD, GIM, Transportation in service of driving 1st mile supply chain performance improvement, efficiencies and accountability. This includes driving projects, processes, and interactions that elevate Supplier Performance with these vendors against key measures such as: On-Time Ship, On-Time Arrival, Fill Rate, EDI Availability, and EDI Match Rate. This includes developing interaction models and identifying reporting and compliance tools required to support on-going engagement. The SPM Director is responsible for setting the vision and driving processes for leveraging performance data to identify trends, uncover root causes, and initiate action plans to drive performance and accountability for both internal and external partners. As Target transforms its supply chain, this role will be the accountable owner of the measurements, interactions, and outcomes required to enable faster and more accurate order fulfillment.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Develop supplier performance vision, strategy and standards that enable consistent delivery of key results related to these activities for owned brand and import vendors.
  • Define requirements for owned brand / import compliance program to support on-going management of suppliers; partnering with Compliance team on implemtnation and activation.
  • Works in partnership with OBSD, Inventory Management, Suppliers, and direct reports to identify and solve key supplier performance problems leveraging the ability to extract insights from data and analytics and perform root cause analysis.
  • Manage cross-functional projects with multiple interdependencies in support of GIM priorities
  • Drive data-driven analysis and continuous improvement activities with Target's owned brand merchandise suppliers
  • Partner directly with OBSD leaders to define both business-specific and global supplier performance priorities and drive progress against these objectives.

  • Provide education, analytics, and project management support to Suppliers and Inventory Management teams in order to achieve joint operational outcomes.
  • Explore opportunities to refine order management, field operations, and logistics activities for both Target and our Suppliers.

About you:
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years relevant experience in supply chain, owned brand or strategy
  • Experience in a supplier-facing role with responsibility for balancing team goals with supplier capabilities
  • Experience leading strategic intiatives across global team
  • Experience with root cause analysis, problem solving, and cross-functional project management
  • Ability to develop strategy and drive implementation and activation
  • Ability to thrive and navigate ambiguity - managing through setbacks and manage conflicts
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, including ability to foster cross-functional partnerships
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Previous direct team leadership preffered but not required


This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid (known internally at Target as "Flex for Your Day") work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at a Target location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role may be performed either remote or onsite at a Target location depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
