About us:
As a Fortune 50 company with more than 350,000 team members worldwide, Target is an iconic brand and one of America's leading retailers.
Working at Target means the opportunity to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. Caring for our communities is woven into who we are, and we invest in the places we collectively live, work and play. We prioritize relationships, fuel and develop talent by creating growth opportunities, and succeed as one Target team. At our core, our purpose is ingrained in who we are, what we value, and how we work. It's how we care, grow, and win together.
Right on pace with Target's distinctive retail brand, in a role in Target Finance and Accounting, you will be a truly collaborative partner with a seat at the table. You'll bring your unique point of view, experience and passion for the work to your team and internal clients. In Finance, you'll be an integral voice in discussions that lead to Target's unparalleled shopping experience. Your analysis and recommendations will be directly applied to critical business decisions, from sales to merchandising and beyond. Within Finance, you'll enjoy the interesting challenges of the competitive retail space. You'll see your contributions come to life in virtually every area of this dynamic enterprise. And you'll grow and be challenged in your career while having a healthy balance with life outside of work.
Working within Tax, your mission will be to drive value-added work and support our core retail business goals. Our tax team focuses on all aspects of tax reporting including enhancing productivity and efficiency of core compliance through process and technology, monitoring tax risk and opportunities across all tax disciplines, engaging and educating Finance and the broader organization regarding tax considerations, and prioritizing team resources to support key work streams.
As Director of Sales Tax, you will lead a team of experts responsible for taxability determination, compliance, controversy management, accounting, and forecasting of both retail and purchasing sales and use tax and fees. This includes ensuring taxes and fees are assessed, collected, filed and remitted timely and accurately, as well as establishing and enforcing SOX and operational controls. You will help set the strategy to optimize team and process, championing accuracy and efficiency. You will play a critical role in supporting Target's guest experience, ensuring technology and processes support accurate and transparent taxation. You will help ensure the success of Target's retail operations and new business initiatives by providing thoughtful and responsive support to business partners, and evaluation of pending legislation. You will be responsible for defending Target's tax positions while maintaining strong relationships with external taxing authorities. You will leverage your accounting skills to serve as key decision maker in accounting policy and controls. You will play an integral role in communicating our tax vision, setting goals and defining measures of success for your team, while also working with your peers as a member of the Tax Leadership group to build broader team engagement.
In this role, you will work closely with many partner groups, including Accounting, Finance, Technology and Product, Merchandising, Procurement, Government Affairs and Legal as an integrated business partner supporting Target initiatives, establishing shared priorities, and advocating for Target's tax positions. You will also work with your team to manage a portfolio of external advisors, including measuring and reporting advisor performance, and achieving planned outcomes within budget.
This role requires strong leadership skills, a focus on developing teams and team members, experience in managing complex sales and use tax operations, the ability to manage multiple partnerships across a complex and dynamic organization, accounting expertise, strong communication and advocacy skills, and a passion for driving outcomes. These skills will support your work to deliver optimized tax outcomes, develop future leaders, and ensure regulatory and compliance obligations are met using controlled and efficient processes.
