Description: The pay range is $109,000.00 - $196,200.00

As a Lead Threat Detection Engineer, you will work with a team of skilled analysts to reliably solve complex fraud and abuse problems and discover innovative ways to detect and prevent fraud by analyzing large data sets. You will be supporting target fraud and abuse group in making data driven decision, identifying the unknown ways of threat actor committing fraud and coming up with solutions to stop these threat actors. In this role, you will also be working with multiple teams across security/enterprise to understand the problem and then analyze and provide insights to build algorithm/models. We will look to you to own problem and work with data to provide solution. A role with this team means being a part of the team that works closely with the business to detect and identify fraud/threat to build detection to stop/reduce fraud through better data analysis.

We'll look for you to mentor and provide technical support within a team, including mentoring junior team members, and present your work and your team's work to business partners and other target teams. With a deeper understanding of your functional area of responsibility, you'll support agile ceremonies, collaborate with peers across multiple products, communicate and collaborate with business partners, and demonstrate an understanding of areas outside your scope of responsibility. We are looking for skilled developers and data analysts with experience in one or more of the following areas: Python, SQL, AND Hive/Hadoop. Perform data analysis to provide actionable data insights. Our work directly protects Target and our Guests.

About You
  • Four-year degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years' of professional experience in this role, or a relevant and similar role.
  • Experience working with Python, SQL, Hadoop/Hive, Spark.
  • Experience with data analysis, and application of statistical knowledge to real world problems.
  • Experience working with Jupiter notebook.
  • Experience with Cybersecurity Operations framework (not mandatory)
  • Experience in analyzing large data sets
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical expertise, close attention to detail, excellent critical thinking, logic, and adaptive learning
  • Passion for solving interesting and relevant real-world problems using a data science approach.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to clearly tell data driven stories through appropriate visualizations, graphs, and narratives.
  • Strong team player with ability to collaborate effectively across geographies/time zones.


This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
