SALARY: $50,000 - $60,000 dependent upon experience and/or qualifications

The Engineering and Technology Department invites applications for a full-time position as Instrumentation Technologist I specializing in Computer and Electrical Engineering. The position will be responsible for managing the operation of the university laboratories within the department and require advanced technical knowledge and skills to operate and maintain a wide variety of equipment. The Engineering and Technology Department at UW-Stout offers six undergraduate programs including Computer & Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (B.S. and M.S.), Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Packaging.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required

• Ability to work and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff who possess a variety of knowledge and skill sets; problem solve; take initiative per job demands.
• Skill in instructing others on the safe use, care and maintenance of all equipment.
• Commitment to modeling and enforcing safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to apply knowledge of component selection and processing; principles and elements of design; computer applications for design and development; purchasing and inventory management.
• Demonstrated success working with diverse stakeholders.
• Associate degree in Electronics or Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanical Controls, or equivalent education and/or training.

Highly Desired

• Experience maintaining and installing test equipment within electrical and computer labs.
• Advanced electro-mechanical skillset to include soldering, electrical, computer, controls, networking, and instrumentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will work with electrical, computer, and networking equipment. The position will assist in developing research solutions to problems in state-of-the-art facilities. Duties also include material selection, purchasing/inventory, and processing; communicating and enforcing health and safety practices and procedures within the laboratories; providing instructional training on the proper use and function of all lab equipment; maintaining a record of training; assisting students in learning the techniques and constructing prototypes required for the execution of their design solutions; setting up equipment in support of instruction.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The Department of Engineering and Technology is one of eight departments in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Management (CSTEMM). The department has approximately 40 full-time faculty and staff, three of whom are full-time technicians. The department provides courses for its well-established and accredited undergraduate programs in Computer & Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Packaging, plus other programs throughout the university.
