The University of Wisconsin-Stout invites applications for a lecturer in Media History within the largest public school of art and design in the upper Midwest with award-winning and nationally ranked game design and development programs. Seeking a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching with a desire to shape historical perspective of practicing students in BFA and BS art and design programs. This position will teach classes at the undergraduate level. Course delivery is in-person and in accordance with NASAD standards. This is a full-time, 9-month academic year position, with intent to renew. Typical courses include History of Interactive Media (focused specifically on videogames) and History of Film courses as well as other potential courses based on ability and interest. Opportunities to develop new curriculum in art and design history in area of applicant's interest and expertise. Mentorship by senior faculty. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

• Have one of the following by date of hire:
  • Master's Degree in relevant field
  • Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience in relevant field
• Evidence of potential for teaching excellence
• Background in media history, design history or art history with an interest to teach courses in History of Interactive Media (focused specifically on videogames) and History of Film
• Evidence of excellent written and organizational skills

Highly Desired/Preferred

• Completed terminal degree in related field of study
• Evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduate students (such as course evaluations or other documentation)
• Ability to teach courses in History of Interactive Media (focused on videogames), History of Film, and other related subjects
• Interest in developing new curriculum in media history
• Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations
• Commitment to cultivating a work environment and student experience that embraces inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach ARTH 340 History of Interactive Media (focused on videogames), ARTH 341 History of Film and/or other undergraduate art/design history courses consistent with background as assigned
• Participate in academic program assessment, maintaining program accreditation, and continuous improvement processes in collaboration with faculty and staff
• Foster a rigorous and inclusive learning environment
• Provide documentation of classroom instruction, student evaluation, and requested teaching resources
• Demonstrate organizational skills, collegiality, and engagement with the University community
• Perform other duties as designated by Chair

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The School of Art & Design has over 85 faculty/staff and over 1,300 students, making it the largest higher education art and design entity in the upper Midwest. The School of Art & Design student population accounts for roughly 20% of the on-campus undergraduate population at UW-Stout. Our school serves MFA in Design , eight undergraduate degrees , and six minors .

The game design and development areas in particular are nationally recognized by multiple ranking bodies and have won several high-profile awards for student games.
