Description: The pay range is $54,800.00 - $98,600.00

A role with the Design team means a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original. Are you a design expert who can support your business by staying one step ahead of industry trends, new materials, and techniques? Can you demonstrate the utmost attention to detail and create products that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their design and quality for the price? Then you'll have success on our Design team who owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home goods, and beauty to essentials. In close partnership with our merchant and sourcing counterparts, you'll drive brand cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our products meet the merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction.
As an Associate Designer, you will support Owned Brand Product Design and Development with direction from design leaders to achieve overall product design strategy and merchant objectives. You will be expected to maintain a diligent and self-directed approach to workload and provide accurate and timely communication to internal and external partners. You will support the team in developing own brand concepts which includes product/trend research, color, professional presentation boards/materials and initial design product designs. You will assist the team in preparing product specs, PLM system entry, CAD/hand sketching, updating product line sheets or colored CADS, communicating with vendors and developing trim, print, embellishment, and hardware packages. You will work closely with the Technical Design department, working together to communicate aesthetic fit and construction details.
Creative Skill Set
You will use your creative skill set to support and develop product from start to finish for the Target Gen Z guest. Utilizing your ability to follow design direction, interpret trend, and color you will translate your ideas to meet the brand aesthetic. You will bring to life the design vision throughout the development process, research, selection of materials/finishes, and the creation of silhouettes. Using hand sketch, technical sketches, you'll translate ideas for product direction. This includes professional presentation boards with illustration, CAD artwork, color, and fabric.
Avid Learner
You will utilize your passion to continually learn in this role. Interested in the guest, the new technology, and the market. You will be asked to share your individual insights and findings with the design team. Your growth and development will expand as you learn more about garment construction, new innovations, product development systems, and sustainability.
Reliable Partner
You will be expected to maintain a diligent approach to workload, which includes timely communication with internal and external partners. In addition, you will support developing product designs to maintain overall creative direction, merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points. You'll gain knowledge on how to build brand cohesion through partnering with peers to ensure continuity.
About you:
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. About you:
- 2 year certificate or 4 year degree in Fashion Design preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Prefer to have 2+ years industry experience.
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite - Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
- Skilled at hand-sketching, CAD illustration, and fashion illustration.
- Curious & humble self-starter with a passion for learning.
- Ability to function as an organized & self-motivated support to the Designer and/ or Senior Designer of the department.
- Keen eye for detail & nuance within trend & fashion, with a relentless passion for new, innovative, & aspirational design influence.
- Understanding of textiles, garment construction/ fit, raw materials, & product development.
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to do creative, focused, visual presentations.
- Ability to multi-task, demonstrate a sense of urgency and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Ability to successfully work in a collaborative a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to research, stay aware, and apply design industry/market/trend information.
- Ability to build strong partnerships in order to successfully work in a team environment.
- Strong critical thinking & problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Procreate.
