JOB DETAILS:

The University of Wisconsin-Stout seeks an economist with a passion for teaching and the potential for innovative scholarship to fill a full-time, entry level, tenure-track appointment beginning in August of 2024. Located in Menomonie, Wisconsin, UW-Stout fulfills its mission as Wisconsin's polytechnic university by preparing career-ready, creative thinkers who graduate equipped with the knowledge and skills to emerge as leaders in their workplaces and communities. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required
  • PhD in economics required by the beginning of the appointment.
  • Interest in advancing student learning in economics.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse stakeholders.
Highly Desired/Preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching economics to undergraduate majors and non-majors.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate student research.
  • Experience in establishing a student success environment that embraces inclusion.
  • Demonstrated potential for applied scholarship.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include teaching economics courses to support general education requirements and programs in Applied Social Science (including an economics concentration) and Business and Administration, as well as minors in economics and investments and finance. Responsibilities also include maintenance of a reasonable research agenda commensurate with the teaching load, and service necessary to maintain the functioning and excellence of the university. Faculty also provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning, including contributing to academic program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff across campus. In addition to academic year instructional responsibilities, there is the possibility of additional teaching opportunities during the summer and winter.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

As an economist you will be a member of the social science department at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The department is interdisciplinary (including history, sociology, anthropology, political science, and geography) and houses the Applied Social Science program (major), a multi-disciplinary, hands-on degree that prepares students for careers in a variety of industries as well as government and non-profits. The department has research and teaching strengths in public policy, social science research methods, and a range of applied topics (such as environmental issues, sustainable agriculture, inequality, health, etc.). Alongside teaching economics and quantitative research methods, there are numerous opportunities to mentor student research and to work on research tied to local issues. In addition to the programs housed in the department, faculty contribute to the Stout Core, our general education program, as well as to related programs in business, supply chain management, and related areas including a vibrant investments and finance minor.
