Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a full-time staff attorney for its Community Clinic with the Division of Indian Work (DIW) in Minneapolis. This position provides a unique opportunity to work directly with American Indian families at a trusted organization.

MMLA is a collaborative and supportive work environment. We offer a flexible schedule, where employees may work 3 days remotely per week. The office features a community gathering/lunch area with free coffee and tea. Friday afternoons are paid flex time, and the office is closed. We provide on-the-job training and education.   • Apply the principles of MMLA’s Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions.
  • Staff an in-person legal clinic at the Division of Indian Work, two days per week (subject to change.)
  • Work with DIW staff and other partners to identify and tackle legal challenges facing the Urban American Indians Community.
  • Provide representation on civil legal issues including:
    • Full representation in civil cases, including:
      • Custody
      • Divorce
      • Housing
      • Consumer
      • Criminal expungement
    • Brief services and advice in these and other areas
  • Community outreach.
  • Community education as appropriate to client, project, and office needs.
  • Support other members of Legal Aid’s Community Clinics Unit.


  • Required:
    • Concern for the needs and rights of low-income persons.
    • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Minnesota.
    • Ability to work positively within a law office, supporting co-workers while focusing on providing high-quality service to clients.
    • Proactive, diligent, and flexible attitude.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience working with BIPOC and other marginalized groups.
    • Diverse economic, social, or cultural experiences.
    • Experience in working in community partnerships.

SALARY:  $70,000 to $76,364 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits. Benefits include family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off.
