JOB DETAILS:

We welcome applications for an Academic Advisor who will engage students in decision making processes and promote appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements. As an Advisor you will maintain appropriate confidentiality, update student advising records, and contribute to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs. Ensuring students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion; while striving to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

This is a full-time, 12-month appointment with an anticipated start date of April 1, 2024 or sooner.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with students in a student success atmosphere.
  • Experience presenting information in individual and large group settings.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and ability to meet deadlines.
Highly Desired/Preferred
  • Earned master's degree in higher education administration or related field.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Experience in post-secondary academic advising. Preferably working with first-year, first-generation, or high-risk populations.
  • Experience in post-secondary setting involving advising, recruitment, retention, or related student affairs area.
  • Proven skills and ability to successfully work with Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems, Degree Audit Management Systems, and CRMs (e.g. Canvas, People Soft, Stellic, EAB Navigate).
  • Knowledge of Student Development Theory.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Advising
  • Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources.
  • Maintains confidentiality and accurate students records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies.
  • Proactively engages students as needed.
  • Provides holistic academic, cultural, and social advisement to assigned incoming first-year and undeclared transfer students. Consults with academic program directors regarding current program requirements. Attends academic program department meetings as requested and works collaboratively with faculty to ensure student success.
  • Introduces students to and assists students with information and instructional technology: Access Stout, EAB Navigate, Canvas, Stellic, informational websites, Transferology, etc.
  • Maintains accurate case notes and records in EAB Navigate.
  • Welcomes guests and students to campus as an active participant and presenter at First-Year Registration and Orientation (FYRO) and campus preview days. Gathers information regarding previously earned credits to assist in providing accurate course advising to assist in a student's preparation for their first semester(s) at UW-Stout.
Service
  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and in-office committee work.
  • Serves on various interdepartmental and university committees.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
