LSS Companion Services is seeking volunteers to support older adults in person. This is a fun way to connect with others while staying near home, creating new friendships and making a huge difference for those feeling isolated or overwhelmed. Companion Services are available in most of Minnesota and North Dakota.

Benefits include:

  • Flexible scheduling Companions and older adults are carefully matched based on individual needs and interests. LSS Companions are volunteers (55 and older) who are trained by Lutheran Social Service of MN to support older adults in their community. Companions provide dependable transportation to activities, meaningful friendship, and the assistance older adults need to remain living as independently as possible.
    No experience or diploma required - we’ll provide all necessary training. Volunteers make a difference by providing weekly visits that keep older adults feeling well - both physically and emotionally. Benefits include: a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement, recognition, training, along with making a lasting impact on older adults in their communities.

LSS Foster Grandparent Program is seeking volunteers to positively influence children and youth in a variety of settings, including elementary schools, preschools, shelters, childcare centers and other community settings. From striving to prepare children for success in school to mentoring teenagers, Foster Grandparents make a difference in the lives of those they serve. Foster Grandparent program is available in many of Minnesota’s counties.

Requirements:

  • No prior experience is required. Training is provided. You must be age 55 or older and in good general health. Have compassion, patience, flexibility and respect for children and others. Work well with diverse individuals and families. Have dependable transportation available.
