Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment for all Heliene Facilities. The Senior Environmental Health and Safety Manager is required to know and comply with State, Provincial, and Federal laws as they apply to Health and Safety in the Workplace. They will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining policies and procedures related to health, safety, and environmental concerns. They will be required to continuously shift priorities to meet the position's changing demands and are expected to display a high standard of diplomacy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, administers, and maintains applicable health, safety, and environmental programs.
- Develops and implements accident investigation programs and procedures to ensure work related injuries are reported and investigated to prevent reoccurrences. Including performing accident investigations as required.
- Support the H&S Team during onsite investigations and identify possible causes of the accident and find plausible solutions to avoid future accidents.
- Oversees and manages environmental programs, including record keeping and hazardous/special handling waste programs.
- Audits existing safety, health and environmental programs and updates programs as legislation changes occur.
- Leads the EH&S Team to ensure strong communication and ability to support the entire organization across both Canada and the US.
- Develops and facilitates (as required) health, safety, and environmental training as required by state, provincial or federal legislation.
- Ensures training records are maintained as a means of assuring compliance and providing a safe work environment.
- Leads the implementation of emergency response programs including life/safety, fire protection and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Act as a liaison between management and external safety agencies, such as fire, police, Ministry, and insurance personnel as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, health, and safety certification, with five (5) years’ experience working within state, provincial, and federal safety requirements, at least four (4) years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience required.
- Excellent understanding of OSHA and OHSA, including experience working closely with external inspectors and regulators
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to speak and present to the public as required
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines
- Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers
- Understanding of how to read blueprints and other construction plans preferred
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to train, motivate and provide constructive feedback as required
- Ability to problem solve and assess and mitigate risk as required
- Experience with PowerPoint, Excel and auditor safety software
- Experience working at an automated manufacturing facility is an asset
- Must have a valid passport and ability to travel internationally
- CSP, CHSM, CHD, RIOH, or other professional designation is a strong asset
