The Director - Hospice Operations provides positive and effective leadership to the hospice team consistent with Ecumen's mission, vision, and values. With direction from the Chief Nursing Officer, this position sets standards and collaborates with cross functional teams, regulatory bodies, and industry leaders to ensure provision of the highest quality hospice care. The Director-Hospice Operations mentors, educates and leads the Clinical Directors and is responsible for leadership development, financial management, quality initiatives, operational oversight and successful accomplishment of goals related to people, quality, financial performance, and fiduciary obligations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Ensures that patient care and business operations are carried out according to Ecumen policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Serves as the leader/expert in regulatory issues, compliance, and Ecumen Hospice policies.
  2. Leads, mentors and educates hospice site leaders and other hospice leaders in the achievement of all people, quality, and financial goals. Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, training, continuing education, and performance management of Clinical Directors.
  3. Provides oversight and management of financial performance of individual hospice locations and enterprise-wide hospice operations. Develops, monitors, and routinely reports key metrics, identifying and correcting actual or potential process failures and ensuring improvements positively impact all locations.
  4. Collaborates with hospice and organizational leaders to meet quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) program requirements. Works with hospice branch teams to address patient care or quality concerns on performance improvement in these areas.
  5. Responsible for ongoing improvement in safety including the Emergency Preparedness Plan and standard compliance. Directly involves hospice leaders in these activities and in the development of corrective actions to increase safety awareness. Allocates resources necessary to accomplish patient safety initiatives and collaborates with hospice leaders to make safety-based staffing decisions assigned areas.
  6. Collaborates with internal business partners, functional leaders, and support teams to meet new business goals in the ongoing expansion of Ecumen Hospice.
  7. Coordinates and leads special projects. Fills in on a temporary basis as needed for open Clinical Director positions.
  8. Partners with hospice and applicable business partners to investigate and resolve complaints, grievances and incidents promptly.

Director - Hospice Operations Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • License: Active, unencumbered RN license in MN
  • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years leadership experience in hospice
  • Certification:Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN)
  • Broad knowledge of hospice regulations, reimbursement, and industry trends
  • Proven leadership experience managing interdisciplinary teams
  • Financial acumen and budget management skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills including MS 365 and Electronic Health Records systems
  • CPR Certification
  • Able to travel approximately 40% of the time to Ecumen communities and other locations
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and driving record which meets Ecumen Driver Policy standards and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Able to follow all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility including but not limited to: Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy, Patient Bill of Rights, OSHA, Universal Precaution, AWAIR, Right to Know, and SDS.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's degree in nursing, business, human services, or a related field
  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience in hospice management or a similar leadership role
  • Experience: Multi-site hospice operations
