Administrative Assistant
Chief Clerk’s Office/Index
Full-time nonpartisan position with benefits, to start immediately, in the Index Department of the Chief Clerk’s Office in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Primary responsibilities include assisting in the daily operation of the Index office. Creating and maintaining documents for use by the Chief Clerk’s Office staff. Tracking and posting Journal action to the online House Bill Status system. Contacting House Committee Staff to assist in bill tracking as bills move through the legislative process. Will assist in the daily operation of the Index office by responding to member, staff and public requests for information relating to bill status, legislative documents and various House records. Provide assistance in the proofreading of all documents for the printed Index to the Permanent Journal of the House and other written and published documents as needed. Additional duties include delivery of original documents in Capitol complex and willingness to assist as needed within the Chief Clerk’s Office.
Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills and work well with others. Proven ability to remain objective, nonpartisan, confidential and professional regarding all assigned legislative duties and interactions with all members and staff. Ability to work effectively as a team member and to contribute to a pleasant, efficient, and inclusive work environment in the Chief Clerk's Office.
Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. Ability to adapt quickly, meet tight deadlines and handle pressure well is essential. A good understanding of the legislative process is highly desirable. Must be a motivated self-starter who is able to work independently. Familiarity with MS Office applications and Outlook is necessary. Must be flexible and able to work long and irregular hours during legislative sessions and at certain other times.
This is a full-time, at-will position that works in person with the possibility of some interim remote work consistent with House policies and department needs. The House offers a competitive salary and opportunities for ongoing professional development. Starting classification and annual salary commensurate with relevant experience. Administrative Assistant range $53,318.88 - $95,973.84. The starting salary range for an entry-level Administrative Assistant is generally between $53,318.88 and $58,650.72 depending on relevant experience.
